I just cut down my glove box on the ’53. First I measured how much room from the front of the dash to the a/c unit I had. Then drew a line around the box and cut it with a utility knife (with a new blade). Then I traced the outline on a piece of black foam board I purchased at Staples. Then I pushed the foam board into the front half of the box until it was flush with the back and used black gorilla tape all around the outside to hold it in place.

I did the same thing but saved the back of the box thinking I might be able to connect it where I cut the front. It is a bit small and I haven't quite figured it all out yet. I don't have the patience of Denny on these things; I wish he lived next door. I'd drive him crazy.
I'm trying to figure how you used the foam board. Are you saying you used it for the back of the box? Was it heavy enough to work or did you double it up?
