I've been chasing a gas smell in the cab recently,that and my fuel gauge has been acting up.
I'd initially put the smell down to the warm weather but to be honest it was more than just a whiff....

Due to boxing in of my gas tank a simple look-see wasn't possible.
Access required the removal of the seat cushions and woodwork around the (NEW) tank.
A replacement under warranty was not an option as the logistics of this would be a complete nightmare!
Add to that the vendor in the UK has ceased trading....

Having done the strip out I discovered a porous weld and tell tale marks in the paint around the filler neck where it joins the tank.
I purchased some Petro Patch epoxy type putty as welding was NOT an option, for obvious reasons.
I formed a bead of putty around the weld and i'm pleased to say the cab now smells just like it should...old truck!

The sender is another matter altogether,the sender float well...doesn't!
It's a Universal adjust to fit type I got with my gauges,it would seem the foam has decided to become porous and absorb gas??

Ethanol perhaps,as I know that also contains cellulose which I DO know can attack certain plastics.....
Yet another problem caused by ethanol methinks......
