I'll be taking my 1951 plates to the county tax office next month. I understand that I should be able to use them if no other plates with those numbers are currently being used. What problems, if any, did you have at your tax office?

1. Had to make them re-research that '45 and '46 only issued one plate, so I couldn't possibly have 2 plates (supervisor had a look of relief on her face when she thought I needed 2 and she could send me packin').

2. Then told them it didn't matter that it was a truck but the plates weren't (would love to have found some but only one I did was $450 - pass). That was a bluff as I've never seen that in writing but have heard they wouldn't make a big deal out of it. Sure 'nuff.

3. They were trying to be helpful, took almost 1/2 an hour once they started, had to call Austin, look in their manuals, etc. As they were trying to enter it, the system wouldn't allow it, but (not sure exactly what they did) they eventually got to a screen that let them enter one character per field and that seemed to do it.

Good luck, be persistent, and let them know it's been done, they just need to stay on it until they make it work.

Supervisor indicated "this whole thing is gonna change soon" regarding YOM plates, had heard rumors they were trying to eliminate them, so enjoy while you can.

On the other hand, (knock on wood) been driving the Green Farmer going on 4 months now with original '69 plates, no stickers anywhere and not a single cop has given me a second glance. So maybe when they see an old one they just ignore them?

'69 1/2T stepside, Sea Foam Green, 250 L6 w/ 3 on the tree, not an option on it, in the family since new.
