I worked almost all day last Saturday on the transmission cover on my 51. Since the shifter on my GM 89mm is near the back of the tranny and the old SM420 shifter is near the front of the tranny, I had to move the hole. I cut the old shifter tower hole from the original location and welded it in the proper location in the back corner of the tranny cover. I then welded a patch to take the place of the metal I moved. I then noticed a little rust damage on the corner nearest the accelerator pedal so I fixed it as well. I will then focus on the driver's side floorpan's rust repair.

I think I'll get some Zero Rust or something similar and try to prevent any further rust damage. I may even get some roll-on bed liner and coat the floorpan and kick panels with bedliner material.
