If going "original" paint them black...prime with POR-15 and then top coat with POR Top Coat...you won't be disappointed. If you use a clear urethane or spar you'll be redoing it every few years because they just don't hold up now that they are water based...

I did put my new MD State permanent "Life Time" tag on the fire truck! Vehicle has to be 60 years old to qualify for this tag smile
