Yes, I had all the equipment reserved and two days before I decided to go pro. I really wanted to do it myself as well.

You need a diesel generator to supply the air. That was $80 per day, then a 100lbs pot was $80. So taxes, you're at $200 in rental equipment. The sandblaster you rent is nowhere NEAR as powerful as the one they use. So double the time they took, if not tripple.

I think I threw the towel in on doing it myself when the air compressor I was renting needed a clevis hitch to tow it back to my place.

Based on what I've read on this site, and the mess I've experienced doing small sandblasting, I decided to get a pro to do it.

It was messy, and they had the setup to get it done fast. So I add my name to the list of guys who say let the pros do it.

As for the portability of the guys, look under professional washers. Lots of companies have their buildings cleaned with sandblasting, graffiti removed etc. The whole setup is in the back of a 25' truck.
