Completed my fuel pump installation and took a successful test drive. Yeah, I know, a fuel pump is not a big deal, but for this new guy it was a significant milestone working on the motor. I'm pleased that I was able to determine the problem, order the right part and successfully install it, with assistance from my wife (she held the work light) and the advice of several folks here in the forums. My truck now idles smoothly, accelerates with ease and doesn't stall out.
