MINWAX "Helmsman indoor/outdoor spar urethane is not water based. MINWAX does produce a polyurethane water based product sold as MINWAX Super Fast-Drying Polyurethane For Floors. I used the Minwax indoor/outdoor HELMSMAN clear semi-gloss spar urethane 8 years ago, applying 6 or 7 coats between light sanding with steel wool. The only change is a very slight darkening of the oak boards. Of course my 51 was not rebuilt as an original, and for that reason I would recommend Mike B's suggestion of black paint and POR-15 if that is your plan.
