This is a '54. Did anyone else skip installing the middle brace? We have the original middle and rear braces, both in good shape, but it was going to be a nightmare trying to get the middle one in there (probably should've done it out of the truck). Anyway, I just put the rear brace (with the screws) in and found that the two halves of the cardboard overlap nicely and it actually looks much cleaner.

What center brace? Are you referring to the brace between the cowl and steering column? If so, I would recommend you do whatever it takes to bolt it in. It was put there for a reason and is an integral part providing structural stability.
