Well, the ol girl has officialy told me to "fix it or forget it!" Took her out a couple times this weekend and noticed a bit of oil in the driveway under the rear end. After the last run into town I looked under there and it was dribbling out,... Great!
Seems that my drive shaft oil seal has given up the ghost and I need to change it out. So, time has come to pull the rear axle apart, no more putting it off. It's a factory 2 speed (electric shift w. planetary gear reduction) I know I'll need the seal, and most likely the input shaft bearings since the housing gets warm when I drive it. Probably going to need carier bearings for the diff as well. Anyone had to rebuild this particular model of rear end recently, and has any inputs on where I might get replacement parts? I'd appreciate the inputs.
Ah well, now I just have to find the time to do this. Workin on it for an hour and a half a day isn't an option right now, but thats all my current shift hours will allow. Joy!
I dig all cars, old and new, whether they were hammered out of American iron, German steel, or Japanese tin cans. Being unable to appreciate them all is missing out on a world of great things. But thats just MY opinion! :P
