1st order of business: I have torn the seat down to parade rest and begun the fun of RUSToration. Joy! the pan was a complete loss, so I removed it and went into town to the air-conditioning and heating place where the guys were kind enough not only to sell me some galvanized steel, but even put the larger bends in it I'd have a bit of a hassle doing with hand tools. I also took a combination of the springs that were in the seat I got from HevyHauler, & the springs from the original seat to make a complete spring assembly. Coated the whole thing liberaly with a chemical conversion coating and painted it. Once I get the lower fram and pan together I can attach the springs to them and start getting the padding and cover together. I cleaned out an old uphosltery shop down the street, the equipment I got from them was real handy in the assembly, and I picked up the padding I need as well. Still debating wether or not to recover it, the covers I have are in fair shape if a little dirty, no tears or cuts tho.
I did score a good heater from E-pay, still, it doesn't kick out the heat as well as I'd hoped. I'm tossin around the idea of modifying the hoses a bit to get better water flow to the heater as it seems to bypass most of it at the fittings. But hey, at least it clears the windshield now! I had a neat little dash mounted fan speed switch by the ignition, but it decided to explode on me. I still have the deluxe heater controls, so I tried the speed switch on that. It works in low and medium, but not hi. I'll just toss a new fan switch in it later on and call it good. The door seals are gonna have to wait till I get the hinges and doors fixed up, in the mean time some adhesive backed storm gaskets for home windows and doors keeps the cold air down to a more tollerable level.
Haven't taken her back to the shop for the rear end work and springs as of yet. I helped our room mate out with the down payment for her new POS F@$d, to repay me she signed over her old beat up POS F@$d and I'm currently fixing it up so I can sell it. I'm hoping I can get at least .35 cents out of it but am doubtful. I have sold it twice, for $3,800 and $4,000, to some guy from craigslist, just wish it was real money!
Ah well, time to get back to actin like I work around here, so they can continue to act like they pay me.
I dig all cars, old and new, whether they were hammered out of American iron, German steel, or Japanese tin cans. Being unable to appreciate them all is missing out on a world of great things. But thats just MY opinion! :P
