I learned that same lesson on my doors, although I did manage to get them on without modifying the hinges. I got the door opening on the passenger side too narrow and needed to grind and reweld the door edges. I still have a screw head that secures the glass channel that contacts the pillar. I may get out the hammer and adjust that a bit and touch up the paint there. But it's not visible with the door closed, so it may just live that way. I'll know better on my next build (should there ever be one. )
