Phil, a friend has fabricated an aftercooler/air dryer setup with some fintube used for hydronic heating. A couple of lengths sloped down in the flow direction with a trap for accumulated water at the end. But as you say copper has gotten EXPENSIVE. Be sure to put water traps at your drops. This video shows a proper air drop configuration. But I would even go a step further and have your hose connection off the side of the drop with a drain valve at the very bottom.
