Maybe too big a hole? I don’t go any bigger than 5/16 unless absolutely necessary (like when drilling out an existing spot weld. Maybe up your wire feed speed. That helps avoid blowouts. I usually keep the trigger pulled and go around in a spiral from outside to inside. But whatever works for you.
