Well...I got the engine started. Things I learned: very hard to start without ether, didn't idle, ran well at about 1500 rpm, died if I let off of the gas, would not restart without more ether, left a spray of coolant behind the exhaust (see pic). So I'm guessing blown head gasket, cracked head or cracked block. I guess I'll pull the head to investigate.... Not what I wanted to see.
Any other thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated. I'm in uncharted territory.
