Time for an update. As I promised early on, I'll share everything, even if it highlights a mistake. Today is one of those days. I last reported very rough, smoky running and very sooty plugs. I did some reading and found that the sooty plugs were likely from a very rich environment. I went out and looked and found that the choke had not been fully disengaged. That explains the rough running and sooty plugs. I also watched some videos on setting the idle and mixture for the YF carburetor and then redid mine. The adjustments made for a decent idle. I verified the coolant level in the radiator and found that it had not changed. So Today, I decided to try and drive it again. Long story, short, it ran poorly and continues to smoke. Here is a video of the exhaust and smoke. I'm starting to think that my junkyard engine is just really tired and in need of a rebuild. It's weird to me, though. It sounds like it's running well when it's idling, but right now, it's running poorly and clearly burning a lot of oil. I'm curious what you all think.
