Hey Everybody, quick update time. I finished the fender repairs and hung it back on the truck. There was quite a bit of rot, which did correspond exactly to the rot that was repaired on the bedside. Then I mounted the taillights. The first pic shows that. Afterwards, I installed the wood stake sides. I had made them several years ago and had been storing them in my basement. Included on the wood is my 3rd brake light. It is a vintage school bus light that I restored. Second pic shows that. Given today's drivers, I feel like having the 3rd light is a safety must have because so many people are trained to rely on that light instead of the other tail lights. The turn, flash and running light functions work. The brake light function does not. I'll have to recheck my wiring instructions, the wires themselves, the connections, the switch and the fuse to make sure it is all done correctly. Somewhere there is a glitch.... Speaking of glitches, I decided to check for vacuum leaks while I was running the engine. This was based on a discussion that Sweet and I had a couple of weeks ago, out at the soccer field. No leaks found around the carb, but the rearmost intake port did have one! The front and middle ports did not. So, I guess that is at least a part of why the truck would die when I tried to drive it. It would accelerate fine, but die on deceleration. Looks like I'm in for a gasket replacement.... Sigh. Anyway, solid progress.
