Hey Everybody,

Cylinder head removal update: I had to remove the upper radiator shroud so that I could reach the petcock on the radiator. I might have been able to reach it from beneath, but I felt like coming down from above was the least likely way to spill a bunch of coolant. Anyway, it's out and the radiator is now drained. Or at least partially drained. I only got about 3/4 of a jug worth out before it stopped draining. I'm wondering if the excessive "smoking" might not have been some coolant as well as oil. Time will tell! Both the intake and exhaust manifolds have been removed. I did remove the carburetor prior to removing the manifolds. I used the borescope camera to get a peek into the cylinder head. Attached is a pic showing the Siamese exhaust ports for #4 and #5. It's pretty obvious #4 was working as designed and #5 wasn't. I also looked into the exhaust port for #6 and it was as bad as #5. All this information does is confirm that #5 and #6 were malfunctioning. It does not tell me if the problem is in the head or the rings, but at least it gives me a place to start looking. Second pic is the current state of the engine.

Tomorrow, I'll disconnect the thermostat housing, remove the spark plugs and then disassemble the rocker assembly from the head and then...remove the head.

Man o man, am I in uncharted territory! Let's hope I don't bollix it up! Last chance for helpful suggestions!
