Hey Everybody,

Quick cylinder head removal update. I mentioned last update that when draining the coolant, I only got 1/2 a coolant jug worth. I was concerned that the head would still have coolant in it and make a giant mess when I unbolted it. So I unscrewed the temperature sending unit and could see liquid right there. So...I needed to find a way to drain more. I went to the block drain at the rear of the block, knowing that it was likely blocked with rust. It was. I did manage to get it flowing by using a small pick. It started slowly but picked up quickly. Ultimately, it worked. Looking into the temperature sensor hole, it was completely drained. I took another 1 1/2 gallons through that port. I know that there is still some coolant in the block, but I think it's out of the head. After that, I took the plugs out, the coil off and the lifter gallery cover removed. I've attached 2 pics of the gallery. Mostly nothing of note, but I did notice that in #5 and #6 the lifter cups are full of oil. The others are mostly not filled. I don't know if it means anything, but I did notice. Anyway, the head should come off next time in the garage. Updates then.
