Current flow is usually shown opposite the arrow direction- - - -at least where the Dead Sea scrolls we used in USAF electronics school back in the 1960s were concerned. As long as the forward bias current flow is toward the bulb filament, the circuit will work.
The circuit might also work with vacuum tubes, but then it would be necessary to empty the grid leak drip pan occasionally. Jerry
