Several years ago, one of my students had a 455 Buick engine in an Electra with all the bells and whistles. It had already had 2 batteries, 2 starters, and an alternator changed, and had the same symptoms- - - -difficult hot starts. I used it as a class demonstration for checking voltage drops in the starting circuit by checking every connection from the battery to the starter and all along the ground circuit for voltage loss. When we got to the negative battery cable to engine block connection it was losing 2.5 volts across a loose, dirty connection. 5 minutes with a wire brush, plus a new bolt and lockwasher fixed it for good!
