Hotrod L./Jerry. thanks for the tips.....I will try that if the levels are low. I do have distilled water, which I will use if they are down. Some people claim that they can add a few teaspoons of magnesium and that can bring a battery back to life (maybe it helps reduce the sulfates?).
However, if the levels are low, I will need to correct the overcharging issue and the potential boiling of the electrolyte. Maybe corrosion (resistance) at terminals between the alternator and voltage regulator makes the regulator "think" the battery is weaker than it is, and then sends too many amps/volts to the battery. Had this problem on a motorcycle I had. Will do some poking around and follow up this week.
