Just thinking here......would a house A/C dimmer switch work, and just hook up between the trickle charger and the 6 volt battery? Like you said, set it to where its putting out about 7 volts. I have seen the 6 volt trickle chargers for around $25, and thats probably cheaper than trying to buy the parts you are speaking of to make one (although the home-made one would probably be alot better quality).
Regulator on 69 C10: I will take it apart again and look, but I am thinking that there were no adjusting screws, so I would have to slightly bend the tabs. There are 2 sets of points inside the regulator.....you are indicating that I need to adjust the "field wire" points.....is this the one which has the alternator wire running to it? So, my goal is to reduce the tension a small amount so the points will close a bit easier. Let me know if this is right, and I will give it a try. 14.5 - 14.7 volts sounds alot better than the 15.25 its putting out now.
