I used to do small engine valves on a daily basis. I've never seen the type of compound your using. That doesn't mean it's not any good, just that I have never used it. What I used came in a small round (like a snuff can) with two sides. One for grinding and one for polishing. The can was green, can't remember the brand. As SimS stated above it was oil based. Your getting there, just slow and steady progress.
