That situation alone makes the engine worth scrap iron value, or at least it makes it a "rebuildable core", not a good candidate for a swap without some serious, and expensive work. The metal that wore off the cam lobes and lifters had to go somewhere, and that metallic contamination finds its way to every other oil-lubricated piece of the engine.
