if it's such a popular term of convenience, why must you correct it? this isn't latin class or a spelling bee. isn't there a site for correcting old tech manuals that would be more suited for the joy of educating people than a old chevy truck site. they prob call it that because it balances out the harnonic and torosional vibration of the spinning assembly, not that it balances the weight of it.
i may not have a clear picture of how it works. but since the tool centers the driver section on the harmonic balancer and then it is driven on with a hammer, it has to bottom out- does it not? if you don't care what chevrolet says and they are so wrong about everything, what's the point of reading this site? to correct all terms of convenience?
