I did read what you said, it doesn't explain any thing, balance and damping are two entirely different things. They work together to create a smooth running machine, however they are not interchangeable in the context you were attempting to put them in.
You are so very incorrect, in the context of the device we are talking about they are one and the same.
Just look up the websters definition. Balance can mean an evening out of forces. As in a teeter totter with balanced forces on both sides, or a scale, gosh man that's what the stinking thing is doing is balancing torsional forces ie canceling, dampening.
Like I said this is the proper use of the word balance.

This is the problem with all the goofs that like to argue that a harmonic balancer is not named correctly, they don't realize torsional movement is a force that needs to be balanced, with a counter force. The device was simply named for its basic function.
