So what I'm getting from you is that the basic electric soldering iron won't work nor will a MAP gas bottle torch used for sweating pipes.
Taking it to a radiator shop seems like the best plan.
MAP burns hotter than propane, so it *might* work. I would start by asking the radiator shop for a quote. They have the right tools and their price could be low enough to make it not worth doing yourself.
