My sending unit has a thin rubber gasket that I supplemented with a gasket seal product. I wiped the surfaces around that unit with a clean paper towel today and it came up clean.
I suppose it’s possible that vapor is passing that seal while liquid fuel is not. Perhaps the snug fit of the rubber washer is sealing well enough that venting is occurring elsewhere? There are a number of connections.
My gas cap is probably not stock. I might just drill a small vent hole in it. What do I have to lose?
