Addendum:
Looking at the failure images posted by Otto , and considering my similar situation, I am inclined to think that this sort of thing is not all that rare. That’s why I’m tentatively planning to repair what I have rather than spending money to get a shiny new example of a flawed truck part.
Who knows how many substandard solder joints are out there? As long as they don’t leak they’re fine- so long as they are not subjected to a mechanical strain.
