Just offering a different perspective. Have you checked the hoses and hose clamps used to connect the external filler/vent pipes to the fuel tank filler neck and vent tube???
Those hoses do occasionally go bad and the hose clamps can loosen up allowing fumes to enter the cab. Just worth investigating IMHO.
