To find the crankshaft to brg clearance: Torque the main cap with the brg in place
Next put a snap gauge or self-centering bore gauge in the hole.LOCK....
Mic the snap gauge /mic the crank and subtract.......real clearance!
I use self centering bore gauges.These I 'Zero in the brg.I them mic the crank and
put the gauge in the mic on a stand ....the number is the clearance in tenths of a thou!
If you don't have really good stuff you just have to be more careful
If you undo one of the main or rod bolts and tap the cap the GAP between cap and rod or cap and block is the crush!
This gets repeated for each bore....rod or main.
If you use a bore gauge a mic stand and rod vice is a good investment
I use gauge blocks to check the mic and bore gauge.......
