I have to agree with Proffit and Oly. I worked in a machine shop for a few years a long time ago. Found out how to measure about anything and never forgot. Using measuring tools is like riding a bicycle or setting valves, you never forget. I've had serious wallet problems with plastiguage and with machinists. Gotten to the point that I take my mics and caliper and standards to the machine shop and let them know what I have against theirs. Also try to keep the temp within about 10* as things expand and contract. Did that one time when I had set up a short block and measured it at about 40* and took the crank in at about 75* did the set things up with the machinist's mics etc and the crank was out bout .0008. Just my $.02.
