The Saginaw transmission, with its synchronized 1st. gear, plus the OD means you've got the equivalent of a 5 speed. You don't have to come to a full stop before engaging 1st.gear when approaching a stop, then you have 2nd., 2nd OD, 3rd., and 3rd OD available. That's as good as, or maybe better than running a T-5, at least in my opinion.
