I took another look at the photos in your original posting. I have not seen a 2 piece rod in any of the OD's I have worked on. Later photos show it protruding through the case as it should. Yours is likely broken and needs to be replaced. I have one in my stock from an earlier unit. I'll take a look at it and see if there is any way they come apart.
