With the right nickel alloy welding rod and a bench grinder, that non-OD shifter could be modified to work properly. Build up the boss with a few layers of metal, and then grind it to the proper contour. It's not like it has to be something that is a precision fit - - - -all that needs to happen is a short push on the lockout lever as Reverse is engaged.
