I got my crank gear removed and replaced yesterday. I read in the instructions that came with my gears, to not mix manufacturers, keep the new gears together. Yea, whatever I said. The old gear looked exactly like the new gear, the teeth meshed up, and it was going to be pain to remove and probably a bigger pain to replace. So, I did what any red-blooded American would do. I persevered and got the old gear removed and the new one pushed on.
With the old gear in my hand, it was pretty obvious that one of the teeth was deformed and would have been a problem had I left it in place. On to the cam gear.
Mostly I needed the thrust plate under the cam gear. I could have cut the old cam in half and slipped the thrust plate off, but that would be a waste of a good cam that someone might be able to use. Perseverance once again, and the two pieces separated and the thrust plate was mine. There was no spacer ring under it, or on the cam though, so I guess I’m not putting the new gear on my new cam until 12bolt Tom’s package arrives next week. Oh well, now I have time to do all the things I should be doing instead of playing trucks.
