Sometimes we forget to look at the bigger picture while we congratulate ourselves on progress.
I took my engine block to a machine shop to be magnafluxed and massaged. I finally received the call that it was ready to come home, so drove an hour north to collect it. It looked great. Clean of all paint, all shiny milled surfaces and cleanliness everywhere I looked. I got it home and then had a number of other things that needed attention and it stayed in the back of the truck for 1 1/2 days until I could get back to it. For some inexplicable reason, I forgot what happens to clean cast iron when it’s left, and how fast that happens. When I got my block out of the truck and into my shop, it had covered itself in a haze of rust.
It’s going to be wire wheel time this afternoon after I seal the block top and bottom. I’ll prime it when it’s clean again, and keep the rust-monster at bay until it’s time to shoot color on my engine.
