Otto, A recheck of the upper and lower radiator hoses for your 216 and '41 radiator should be - Lower: 1-1/2" ID both ends Upper: 1-1/4" ID both ends
A litte searching through Stovebolt and the web comes back with the following Gates hose #s:
Upper: Gates 21942 - 1-1/4" ID both ends and formed correctly (a NAPA alternative is 8632)
Lower: Gates 20230 - 1/1/2" ID both ends and formed correctly
Note: Others have reported some minor trimming of length may be necessary
