I also am suspecting the water pump.

I found a T stat housing gasket for a Ford 460 in my Mom's barn that fit so I put the housing back on with the 160 T stat left out.

I drove around 6 or 8 miles and the temp stayed around 196 for most of the driving but climbed to around 210+ when I pulled back in the driveway.

Normally engine runs at 180 all the time.

It was hard to tell if water was flowing in the radiator as it was starting to rain, getting dark, etc. I'll look more closely tomorrow.

I forgot to measure the distance between T stat housing bolts so I can buy the right gasket when I get a new T stat. Can someone tell me that measurement? I don't trust the parts places to get the right one.

I haven't looked at the water pump removal process. Anything unusual or is it pretty much like any other pump?
