Just leave the upper hose disconnected at the radiator nipple and start the engine. If the pump is working, you'll know it right away! I worked on a little Japanese 4 cylinder engine once that had a stamped sheet metal water pump impeller which had rusted away to less than half its original diameter- - - -mostly nothing but the hub was spinning with the shaft. The only complaint the customer had was "The heater doesn't work right!" Jerry
