Now that I understand what is happening, it seems to me that the 235 housing does the same thing only through the heater core. Maybe this is why the bypass thermostat idea didn't last long. It wouldn't be hard to make a bypass valve setup to bypass the heater core (since it would need full water flow all year around) if you have a 261 and worried about hot spots?
