If I keep it down too long I'm liable to start the frame off and I don't want to go there just yet
That is the quicksand that got me. It went something like, "well, the engine's out- might as well clean up the frame under it...well, can't get to this part without removing that there fender...well, with all this off, might as well get it in primer..." And so on.
I truly hope I'm not the first to work themselves into such a conundrum; and I highly doubt I am. Stick with
your plan- I think I started taking too much advice (the kind that rings like, "if you don't do _____ now, you'll regret it later").
