The dimmer switch has three "terminals". A terminal block is an insulated phenolic board with three screws normally mounted to INNER fender.
This is where the screwup is probably. Someone bypassed the terminal board which is a good thing to get rid of unnecessary terminations, but it's where the screwup is. inside the tape.
