To get the carrier out, mark the bearing caps and the housing, as Jerry suggested and pry the carrier out of the housing. You MAY have to pull the whole assembly out the front with the torque tube if there's a clearance issue with the rear of the axle housing and the ring gear. You'll probably want to work on the rebuild on the bench anyway instead of under the truck. You'll need to turn the driveshaft during assembly to set up the pattern on the ring and pinion. I don't even think you can get the pinion dept setting tool in place unless you pull the assembly out.
