Is it fair to think of the entire run from starter to BATT on the regulator as one run? Yes, although that run also feeds all other electric loads in your truck except the starter. Mine now has a 50 amp self-resetting circuit breaker mounted a couple of inches of #10 wire from the stomp starter switch and then additional #10 going to the ammeter. As the wiring fans out to various loads through smaller wires, additional fuses are used to protect these smaller wires.
