Got bad news from the machine shop today. I haven't been down to look at the block yet, I'll do that tomorrow, but I've been told the magnaflux uncovered a couple of cracks in it. One in one of the #4 Main Bearing cap bolt holes (numbering front to back), and another in the webbing.
Looks like I may be replacing the block as well. Of course, I have already bought all the parts for a small journal rebuild.
Oh well. Machine shop is checking for a replacement block. Looking online, I have seen a lot of high priced blocks, most pretty worn out. Machine shop quoted $150. If they can find a small journal 327/302 block that is +.030 or less, I'll go for it. I have compiled a list of acceptable block casting numbers to take with me as a reference before I accept just any block from them.
Of course, I will want them to mag the block before I buy it. I don't want another boat anchor.
These trucks never make it easy.
