The other advantage of the Ridge Reamer is Machine Shop time is money. If they have to do it, they will charge you for it. Think of this as a learning experience that will make it easier for you next time.
I have always been taught to take the pistons out from the top and all of the V8's and 6's I have done, I have never even tried to take them out from the bottom. Good question though.
