just curious on how many drive their bolts to work,, I did till I retired last yr,,,,see ya down the road,,Fred

I did untill she broke dow. Now I am overhauling the motor, though the manual I bought is a poor refrence.

I drive mine to work and even used to work on it at work. Oh, those were the days, paid to work on my own truck.

Yup, every day.

As soon as it is finished my 56 Bel Air will be my daily driver 50 - 60% of the time. Because I live in TX and must have a vehicle that will cruise in the left lane and keep the driver/passengers cool I'm making some modifications that I'm sure will raise the ire of purists. 235, HEI, Alternator, 2 x 2 carbs, dual exhaust, AC, 200R4, lowered 2", sway bars, and beefed up brakes.

My winter beater died two years ago so my '49 1/2 ton is my daily driver, '56 235 w/ 848 head, Fentons, '62 3sp+od, '57 3.90 open rear.

During the summer months I will drive my truck to work. Some people don't like it cause it is slow. Then again some don't like her cause she smokes. But hey I think everyone could learn to slow down and enjoy the ride.

My pickup is also a daily driver to my town job as well as the ranch work. I am about to do an engine swap to my spare 235 once I finish overhauling it.

I drive mine to work about half the time. Up to about 65 mph I keep up with traffic pretty good. Gotta kind of watch it on bad road ruts though. A lot of people go around me, but that's okay. I like driving the truck because it teaches me patience.

I bought it as a weekend driver but not in the winter. I parked it in the garden the first winter.

But I came to my senses and started daily driving after that first winter years ago. That double-clutching into high gear gives me purpose!

Salt sucks....not in the winter....

I drive mine year round. Salt, sand, snow and ice, it starts and runs every time I ask it to. It's a 64 Chevy long fleetside 2wd and gets around pretty good for no posi and being 2wd. I thought I would have my 63 4X4 done by this winter but I'm not sure if I'll have it done by next winter,

I can mail you a 1978 Chev Silverado...one envelope at a time.......on second thought, a million little pieces of rust might cause a scare at the post office....

I carpool now.. one week in the Chick Truck, next week in a droF pickup... but I drive The Ox or The Coupe With A Truck Block at least once a week or every other week, as long as it isnt raining or too cold.

I drive mine on occasions to work. Take short trips to the store and such. Go on a short backroad trip.

Once I put in my camaro rear end this spring I plan on driving everyday if possible.

I store my truck when the salt comes out. Especially in road salt happy Wisconsin. The county guys by me salt any chance they can get.

when the beastly '69 is done...sure thing i'll drive it! thats the point of having a truck..is it not? and yea....the county sure likes the salt around here. o well. have to take it to the car wash every once in a while to hose her down...-shrug-. not much else a guy can do!

I lived in Wisconsin during 1976-9. The back roads would get dusty with white salt. And I think it was sodium chloride and not some of the less aggressive ones. It would be like driving on a dirt road after the water/ice was gone with a cloud of salt behind the car. Is it still that way?

They use a liquid deicer in Missoula which is better but still can go after chrome. I rinse a lot when I get home after it's been used. I just gotta drive my '48.

Wally Yeah its still the same here. They salt by the truckload in Southern Wisconsin. I found my 49 Sub in Montana and the body was almost perfect. My parts truck came from Stoughton and was almost 100% rust. I gave it away last month. What do they use on the roads in MT?.

what they're usin on the main highway around here is calcium chloride, and it's worse than salt - especially on and around the chrome, don't know about the sodium chloride, but I avoid the highway when the sprays are bein used - gimme salty grit any day!

We lived in Whitewater for those 3 years. We loved that place. My '48 was made in Janesville! Our '75 Hornet was considerably lighter when we left with all the rusty holes. I always said that the holes and lighter weight improved my gas mileage! Go Pack!

i don't drive minw everyday as of yet but i am heading that way. yall got me to thinking about just today, we have 7 or8 inches of snow on the ground and the garage where the 54 is, is about 60 feet behind the house. no driveway just yard but i thought i would give it a try. success no problems and a lot of fun. i wouldn't drive it snow before because i thought the tires 235-70-15 wouldn't go in snow not so put 500 lbs of concrete in back goes just fine. brakes a little touchy but working on that hope to be a dailey driver by end of summer.i am working on the budget now, what should come first. will always be a beater i suppose but still get thumbs up when i drive it. mechanics is where it is at, safety first. have a safe day. ron

With modern 265/75R-16 tires on 2000 GMC chrome wheels, my '52 does better in the snow on 1-wheel drive than my Camaro does with studded snow tires and posi.

In Colorado, until about 5 years ago, they used gravel on the roads. No rust, but always cracked windshields. Then they brought in magnesium chloride, which the DOT "claimed" would not attack metal. Last year, they admitted that it actually does attack metal aggressively, and my Camaro daily driver is beginning to show it where the rubber moulding around the windshield is supposed to seal with the sheetmetal. All it does is trap the mag-chloride in there where you can't wash it out.

A friend of mine is thinking about parting out his '68 GMC 3/4 ton. He's putting the 427 Vette motor up for sale and has offered me the 4x4 out of it, which I'm considering seriously. The reason? His Jimmy runs great, but the body is rusted out so bad that it's almost hopeless to try to restore.

Oklahoma USED to be a salt-free environment, but not any more! The OKC area, and the city specifically, used to sand or use a sand/salt mixture until this year. Now, instead of sanding with sand available locally, they now import salt from Kansas (and spend more money doing so!) and use salt on the roads, particularly intersections. Their reasoning is that sand "lingers", causing dust and potentially dangerous braking situations at dry intersections. Thank God we don't have the truly crappy weather (and resulting crappy roads, although ours do suck to some extent!) you "Nawthrners" have! My guess is the politicians are having one hell of a time legislating us out of our cars, so they'll just destroy them for us, instead!

Heck, it's even motorcycle-riding weather here about 11 months out of the year! :p Might have to put the top down on the BMW ragtop Monday, if the WX is as forecast (clear and 65 degrees!).

BTW, my new '72 C-10 drives great, too!

hear on the news that it would cost NYC a million dollars an inch to remove the snow,, that is hard to believe but

joker, as far as i am concerned nyc could be buried and stay that way. sorry to sound harsh but not much good comes out of there. one mans opinion.

Since this site defines Stovebolt as up to '72 I guess I drive a Stovebolt every day. Lately its been the '72 a lot because of little issues with the '55 1st.

I got everything that was keeping the '55 home fixed a couple weeks ago, and then temps dropped into the teens and I didn't want to chance someone sliding on ice and bending some of that hard to find Suburban sheetmetal. I figure the '72 is easy to find parts for, so I'll risk it on the road pretty much any day.

Temps are back in the 40's and 50's here, so tomorrow morning the '55 1st will be my ride.
