Keeping a spare set of points in the glove box does not express a lack of faith in the HEI unit any more than keeping an old spare tire in your truck expresses a lack of faith in your tires.
Agreed - that is why a carry a completed, spare, replacement distributor (with tested parts) in all my trucks. I have never had to use that spare distributor.
In other vehicles (VWs in 60s/70s), I have had bad condensers and caps - that is why I carry tested-spares of all distributor parts.
